Freedom Readers Book Club
Freedom Readers Book Club is a relaxed group that is open to anyone interested in our mission: To read and discuss for a better understanding and appreciation of our democracy and our national and global historical context. Membership in the League is not a requirement, and you are welcome to join us even if you haven’t finished reading the book!
We have about 30 members on our roster, with 10-12 in attendance for any given discussion. Several in our group choose to remain on the roster to keep track of what we are reading. We meet at a members home or other location, such as a public park, in the evening on the 3rd Thursday of each month (except August).
We democratically select books (by vote) two months in advance of the discussion. They include such titles as The Woman’s Hour: The Great Fight for the Vote, by Elaine Weiss; Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man’s Fight for Justice, by Bill Browder; The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl, by Timothy Egan; and 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, by Yuval Harari.
