The League strongly opposes placing this measure on the ballot.
The current Board of County Commissioners has the authority to place this proposal before voters. Before that decision is made, however, you have an opportunity to be heard.
We encourage every member, who is able, to attend the July 15 meeting and provide public comment. Public comment will be available at the beginning of the meeting. Your participation demonstrates that citizens are paying attention and care about preserving the election system that voters understood they were approving.
If you attend, consider respectfully asking questions such as:
- Why is this change being proposed after voters approved a different framework?
- Why is the Commission considering changing from at-large elections to district-based elections?
- How does this proposal reflect the intent of the voters and the work completed by the DMAC?
Your voice matters. Public participation is an essential part of representative government, and this meeting is an opportunity to ensure your perspective is heard before any decision is made.
Please review the attached SEL 805 before the meeting; and if you are able, join us on July 15 and speak during public comment which is first on the agenda.
