About League of Women Voters
The League of Women Voters (LWV) is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. We never support or oppose any political party or candidate.
Our vision is that every person has the Desire the Right the Knowledge and the Confidence to participate in our democracy. Our mission is to help make that happen.
Who Can Join?
Women—and men (since 1974)—who are citizens and at least 18 years old may join the League as voting members. Associate (non-voting) membership is available for younger people and non-citizens. Joining at any level of the organization automatically confers membership at every level, and with that membership comes the opportunity to make an impact on local, state, regional and national public policy issues.
The League of Women Voters has two distinct roles:
- Voters Education/Citizen Education. We present unbiased nonpartisan information about elections, the voting process, and issues.
- Action/Advocacy. After conducting a comprehensive study, we use our positions to advocate for or against particular policies in the public interest.
The League of Women Voters of Deschutes County (LWVDC) is a membership organization and is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. Member dues and donations are all tax deductible!
