Digital Premiere—Gertrude Stein and Virgil Thomson: The Mother of Us All.
This past February, on the eve of Susan B. Anthony’s 200th birthday, The Met presented The Mother of Us All in collaboration with The Juilliard School and the New York Philharmonic, led by some of today’s most dynamic and pioneering young artists working in opera.
This fully staged production imaginatively chronicles the story of Susan B. Anthony and the women’s suffrage movement. The vivid, gripping story mirrors many of today’s continued struggles for the civil rights of people disenfranchised on the basis of gender, race, and sexuality. The production was roundly applauded by the press and the audience.
